Strategic News
Macroeconomic liquidity metrics reflect a delicate equilibrium heading into the weekend as global financial markets prepare for the Federal Reserve’s upcoming October 27–28 FOMC policy meeting. Benchmark U.S. 10-year Treasury yields pulled back toward 4.74%, pausing their multi-week ascent alongside moderating crude oil prices. Baseline liquidity continues to receive direct structural support from the U.S. Treasury’s systematic secondary debt buyback schedule. Following Thursday’s settlement of liquidity support buybacks targeting TIPS and nominal paper, these expanded operations continue to cushion primary dealer balance sheets, dampen sovereign yield volatility, and sustain commercial credit channels amidst ongoing federal deficit issuance.
On the legislative and statutory front, state-level implementation of strategic Bitcoin reserve frameworks modeled after the CLARITY Act continues to accelerate ahead of Q4 state legislative convenings. State treasury working groups are formalizing standardized multi-signature cold storage guidelines, independent proof-of-reserves audits, and custody compartmentalization. These state initiatives establish concrete statutory mechanisms for municipal and state permanent funds to deploy spot allocations as a permanent structural debasement hedge, while public feedback proceedings regarding the U.S. Treasury’s GENIUS Act rollout are actively clarifying institutional compliance standards for decentralized protocol interactions.
Institutional ETF Flows & Liquidity Absorption
U.S. Spot Bitcoin ETFs faced a sudden, sharp reversal on Thursday, October 22, logging -$635.60 Million in net redemptions following Wednesday’s massive +$524.8 Million net intake. Flow volatility was heavily driven by broad de-risking across multi-asset institutional desks ahead of the weekend, with outflows concentrated in major funds as price failed to hold the mid-week breakout attempt above $84,000. Despite this single-day shock, aggregate spot ETF assets remain well-anchored above $105.1 Billion, representing approximately 6.4% of total circulating supply.
- Net Daily Flow (Oct 22): -$635.60 Million (~7,780 BTC net redeemed).
- Multi-Session Context: The massive outflow followed a three-day accumulation streak from October 19–21 that absorbed nearly $1.08 Billion (led by BlackRock’s IBIT with +$235M and Fidelity’s FBTC with +$212.7M on Wednesday).
- Absorption Dynamic: While Thursday’s redemptions pressured secondary market bid depth, long-term custodial holdings remain intact, with the $80,000–$81,000 zone continuing to attract passive institutional spot demand.
On-Chain Settlement & Cohort Dynamics
On-chain settlement metrics demonstrate strong structural demand anchoring the $80,000–$81,500 zone as Bitcoin digests mid-week overhead resistance:
- Short-Term Holder (STH) Realized Price: The dynamic cost basis for short-term allocators (coins moved within 155 days) sits at $77,120. Spot price trading near $81,610 maintains a +5.8% unrealized profit buffer for recent buyers, establishing the $80,000–$81,300 region as an established macro demand shelf.
- Dominance Expansion: Bitcoin market dominance stands firm at 59.6% (having tapped 60.2% earlier this week). Capital continues to concentrate heavily in Bitcoin as a monetary safe haven, while higher-beta altcoins experience steeper relative drawdown drag.
- Spent Output Profit Ratio (SOPR): Network SOPR holds steady at 1.009, confirming an absence of panic capitulation from older conviction cohorts while short-term sellers who opened positions near recent local highs have finished resetting.

General Market Summary
Over the past 24 hours, Bitcoin underwent an orderly consolidation, easing back from an intraday resistance test near $83,850.00 to touch support at $80,939.54, before stabilizing near $81,586.26 as European morning trade progressed into U.S. pre-market hours.
Microstructure telemetry indicates that the market is healthily digesting mid-week volatility ahead of next week’s FOMC meeting. Despite a heavy single-day redemption shock in U.S. Spot ETFs (-$635.6M on Thursday), underlying order books demonstrate resilient bid depth above the psychologically key $80,000 threshold. Derivatives metrics confirm complete leverage discipline: the Predicted Funding Rate (+0.0042%) and Long/Short Ratio (1.03) indicate an absence of speculative leverage froth. With the Short-Term Holder cost basis ($77,120) providing a firm structural safety net and passive limit bids aggressively defending the $80,900–$81,200 shelf, holding above $81,000 keeps market order books structured for a potential re-test of the $82,800–$83,850 resistance block into the weekend session.
BTCSunrise Comments
While the immediate cascading liquidations have cooled, today is unlikely to be an entirely passive sideways grind. Rather than entering a low-volatility dead zone, the market is navigating an order-book consolidation phase where directional pressure shifts from forced derivatives liquidations to spot market flows and macro execution.
The first driver are ETF flows. Are institutional desks looking at $81,000 bitcoin as a substantial discount, or will they continue to de-risk their portfolios?
The second driver will me Nasdaq. Because the drop from $85,000 was tied directly to tech earnings guidance and semiconductor weakness in Asia, intraday crypto flows remain tethered to the Nasdaq 100 and semiconductor index futures. If American tech can find a bit and stabilize today, cross-asset hedging pressure will ease. Continued equity weakness, however, will invite systematic macro funds to sell high-beta crypto holdings into any relief bounces.
The flush wiped out hundreds of millions in leveraged long exposure.
Funding rates: Perpetual funding has flattened out, removing the heavy long-skew premium that capped the rally near $85,000.
Open Interest (OI): With lower open interest, the market is less susceptible to immediate liquidation cascades, shifting price action to passive limit-order absorption rather than stop-loss hunting.
If you are on Crypto Twitter you’ve probably seen A LOT OF CHARTS AND LINES AND THEN RED SQUIGGLES. Ignore that crap. They never mention the market mechanics like I have above. I tell you what is going on and how it works. They are just hoping some visual mirroring will convince you they know what is going on. It’s what drove me to create this newsletter.
Have a great weekend!
Some Changes
for the time being the BTC Alert System that appears on this page will be down. I am reworking the code and I also hope to move it to it’s own server since right now it depends upon my development machine to function. Also it needs a VPN connection set up to be outside the US because Binance geofences the United States for some of it’s data. The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) strictly regulates futures, options, and perpetual swaps offered to U.S. residents. Under the Commodity Exchange Act (CEA), any entity offering commodity derivatives to U.S. retail or institutional participants must register as a Designated Contract Market (DCM) or Swap Execution Facility (SEF). Binance hasn’t registered as a DCM so they block access. Once the systems that depend upon the feed are on their own machine it will free me up significantly.
There will be more products coming, and after Halloween I will show off the progress the Pricing Prediction models. It has been a very interesting tournament. I have learned a lot from it. The emperical results challenge common beliefs about bitcoin.
